PlastiTrax® Product Kits

Our PlastiTrax® kits combine several carefully configured tablets within a coordinated set designed to systematically address specific requirements in microplastic analysis. They support laboratories in structured method development, standards-compliant validation, and the implementation of transparent and reproducible QA/QC workflows.

Depending on the kit configuration, they contain defined polymer mixtures, different size fractions, or deuterated polymers with precisely documented particle numbers. This allows controlled evaluation of recovery rates, polymer identification, spectral quality (e.g., HQI), and the performance of the entire analytical workflow—from sample preparation to automated QA/QC.

PlastiTrax® kits are particularly suitable for establishing and validating microplastic analysis methods, optimizing analytical workflows, performing validation according to ISO 16094-2, and implementing structured and automated QA/QC systems. By combining tablets with different particle sizes within a single kit, various testing scenarios can be realistically simulated and individual process steps can be specifically validated. The defined particle number of each tablet ensures full traceability, comparability between laboratories, and reliable recovery calculations.

In addition, our kits offer an economic advantage: compared to purchasing tablets individually, the sets are available at a reduced price and are ideal for extensively testing our products and efficiently evaluating different application scenarios.

Special Kits

PlastiTrax® ISO 16094-2 Kit

The PlastiTrax® ISO 16094-2:2025 Kit was specifically developed for the determination of recovery rates in accordance with ISO 16094-2:2025. Within the framework of method characterization, the standard requires verification of the quantitative performance of the entire analytical workflow—including filtration, transfer, spectroscopic identification, and data evaluation.

The kit contains specially configured PE and PS tablets in the size fractions 20–25 µm, 50–100 µm, and 100–200 µm. For each size fraction, two different particle numbers are provided, as recommended in the ISO guideline for recovery evaluation. This allows laboratories to validate both different concentration levels and the required lower size class (20–25 µm) in a standards-compliant manner.

IMPORTANT!

Our PlastiTrax® reference materials are suitable for the official determination of recovery according to ISO 16094-2:2025, as the particle numbers used for recovery calculation can be determined using appropriate analytical methods—including µFTIR or µRaman. The exact particle number is documented on each label, enabling reproducible and standards-compliant recovery calculations.

PlastiTrax® ISO 16094-2 Extended Kit

The Extended Kit includes, in addition to the recovery tablets, further tablets for the determination and definition of the Hit Quality Index (HQI) and for verification of polymer identification according to ISO 16094-2:2025. In addition to quantitative recovery testing, this kit therefore also enables validation of spectral identification reliability, including automated evaluation strategies.

Through the integration of Priority Complete (all 10 priority polymers) and UV-aged polymers (Simulated Aging), realistic scenarios can be simulated and spectral databases can be specifically expanded or verified. The kit therefore supports comprehensive and standards-compliant validation of the entire analytical workflow in microplastic analysis.

ISO 16094-2 requires, as part of method characterization, both the verification of recovery rates and the validation of polymer identification, as well as the definition of an appropriate HQI threshold for automated evaluation procedures.

This Kit contains:

Basic tablets for standards-compliant recovery determination according to ISO 16094-2 and for verifying the performance (recovery) of the entire analytical workflow (including filtration, transfer, and spectroscopic identification).

Priority Complete, containing all 10 main polymers specified in the ISO, for verification of polymer identification and validation of automated HQI-based identification under realistic conditions of complex polymer mixtures.

Simulated Aging containing UV-aged polymers, for evaluating identification reliability of spectrally altered materials and testing the robustness of spectral libraries in accordance with ISO requirements for reliable polymer classification.

PlastiTrax® QC Implementation Kit

The QC Implementation Kit was specifically developed to support the implementation of an automated QA/QC system in microplastic analysis. It contains tablets with deuterated polymers (dPE and dPS) in different size fractions and with precisely determined particle numbers.

By using deuterated polymers, which do not occur naturally in the environment and can be clearly distinguished spectrally from conventional PE and PS, the kit enables precise and automated recovery determination—independent of optical particle recognition. This reduces systematic errors (bias) and improves the comparability of results, particularly in complex matrices where background contamination from environmental microplastics is expected.

The integration of multiple size fractions (20–30 µm, 30-70 µm, 70-120 µm to 120–200 µm) also allows reliable recovery evaluation across different particle sizes, including the lower size range that is often analytically challenging. This makes the kit ideal for laboratories aiming to establish or optimize a structured, traceable, and reproducible QA/QC system.

Included tablets:

          QC dPE (Size: 70-120 µm)

          QC dPS (Size: 70-120 µm)

QC dPE, dPS  (Size: 20-30 µm)

QC dPE, dPS  (Size: 30-70 µm)

QC dPE, dPS  (Size: 70-120 µm)

QC dPE, dPS  (Size: 120-200 µm)
